Patralekha was born in Shillong, Meghalaya in a Bengali family to a Chartered Accountant father and Papri Paul, a homemaker mother. In an interview, she said that his grandmother was a poet. She has two siblings Parnalekha Paul and Agnish Paul.
She went to Asan Valley School, a boarding school and then graduated from Bishop Cotton Girls Bangalore. His father wanted him to follow in his footsteps but he found acting interesting. While attending Her College of Commerce and Economics, he worked in a few commercials for Blackberry and Tata Docomo before taking a break in films.
