Shruti Seth began her journey as a guest relations executive at the Taj Mahal Hotel, in Mumbai. She started modelling at the same time to make some extra money, and after that, she was got offered guest roles in a few television shows. Shruti Seth then hosted such successful shows as Junglee Jukebox and First Day First Show on Channel V. She says that, in an interview, it was her time as a video jockey and tv presenter on the channel “that firmly put her on the map.” She went on to vast in other tv shows named Kyun Hota Hai Pyar, Rishta.com, and Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, on Sony Entertainment TV.
She has got cast in a few films. On moving from tv to films, she says, “I have not shifted to anything. It is not that I would not do television and only do films. Yes, more avenues have begun offered to me. I am game for doing something exciting on any medium – stage, celluloid or television”.She is probably best popular for her character as Fatima “Fatty” in Fanaa (in the year 2006) with superstar Aamir Khan and popular actress Kajol. She got cast in Tara Rum Pum, produced by Yash Raj Films, and made an appearance in Prakash Jha’s film titled Raajneeti in the year 2010. On her character in the film Rajneeti, she says in an interview that “I am hoping that my hard-hitting character in film Rajneeti will change my being typecast because it is the most unlikely role one would expect me to play”.
