She first moved back to Mumbai, Maharashtra to be a marketing executive. Mridul first began her journey with the famous television serial named Swabhimaan. After that, additional characters followed in serials like Koshish, Banegi Apni Baat, and Hu Ba Hu. In the year 2004, she worked in Pratap Sharma’s titled “Zen Katha”, a play based on the life of Buddha in Mumbai opposite Rajeev Gopalkrishnan. Her show, named Koshish Ek Asha in which she portrayed the character of the female protagonist has been dubbed in Chinese, and in 2005, it was released in China. Through this show, the name Sandhya became a household name in China in the year 2005.
She decided to leave the television soap Operas because the character felt repetitive. Of her decision to quit Television, she remarked, “If you want to portray the protagonist these days, you have to be the bahu. I’m not ready to do that. I can not be wearing heavy saris with dark pink lipstick all my life.” Mridul says of the decision, “Do not tell me that I lost. Like I have said previously, you lose only when you lose heart, and I have not. I may have only lost out on a trophy and cash but I have won many people’s hearts.”
